Steelers Win!!!

I don't mean to brag or anything, but I love it when I'm right.
If my memory serves me right, I said Santonio Holmes would make a big play in the second half.
Does making the game-winning catch count as a big play? I think so. I believe his catch was a lot harder to make than David Tyree's helmet catch last year.
Watching the ball in the air, passing over two defenders, making the arm-extended catch, keeping BOTH feet in bounds and having a defender push you as you make the catch. That was the best catch ever in the super bowl (or at least that I have lived to see).
I didn't think Ben Roethlisberger was going to make that drive, but he did. Surprised me. Throw in all of the penalties and the long touchdown by Larry Fitzgerald, I thought Pittsburgh had no chance. Good thing I don't play for the Steelers.
Oh, I have two favorite commercials from the game.
First was the "remake" of the classic Coca-Cola commercial with "Mean" Joe Greene. I thought it was going to be an exact remake, but then the Coke Zero guys came in. I had to watch it again.
My second favorite was the E-Trade commercial with the baby talking about winning the skins game. "Shankopatomus" will be used on every golf course for the next couple of months. Plus the baby was wearing a Taylor Made visor made it that much better.
Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers, six-time world champions.

Thoughts on the first half

Okay, James Harrison returning the interception 100 yards was the best play, so far, of the game. The momentum shift that just took place merely minutes ago could be detrimental to Arizona.
The score should have been 14-10 (10-10 at the least) with the Cardinals on top, but Kurt "old man" Warner made a bad decision.
Larry Fitzgerald has only caught one pass. If Arizona wants to win the game (assuming they do) he will have to get the ball more.
Ben Roethlisberger is playing about what I expected. 11-for-14 for 130 yards is pretty good for him. The Steeler's run game has been decent (37 yards net), but considering the 10 by Arizona, they're doing just fine.
The only good news about being down 17-7 for Arizona is that they start the second half with the ball.
As for the commercials, some of them have been pretty good (Danica Patrick in the shower has been my personal favorite). Some have been pretty bad (the pedigree one with the exotic animals as pets).
Three things to look for in the second half:
1. Arizona will try to get Fitzgerald the ball more. Watch for the fade if they get near the end zone again.
2. Santonio Holmes will have a big play for the Steelers. He might end up being a candidate for MVP, but Harrison probably just won it.
3. Jeff Reed, the kicker for Pittsburgh. Check out his hair. Typical kicker.

Updated...Finally!

Back by popular demand (or for the people who keep reminding me that I haven't updated this) The Mitchell Report is back.
First off, congratulations to Delta State men and women basketball teams for winning their respective games this past week. Especially the men who beat Arkansas Tech in overtime, in a game where Joe McCray earned himself the name Mr. Automatic for the night.
Some of the shots he made were incredible. The three-point shot in front of the Statesmen bench with a hand in his face was great. Then the pressure packed free throws to win the game.
I hope (as a Delta State student) that both teams can keep winning.
This week we have some good stories in the work. Along with sports, I'll be doing some news stories this week.
That should make one teacher who wanted me to get more, what's the word she used...diverse, very happy.
Unlike last week, I already know what my column will be on this week. A few items will be discussed, Delta State baseball being the main topic. Also I will give my thoughts on the Super Bowl. I'm still not convinced either way on who will come out on top.
The Steelers defense is great, but how good is the Arizona offense?
Can the old man (Kurt Warner) win another? I'll have to think about it for a few more days.
Anyways, that's it for now.
I might be back tomorrow. I might not. You'll just have to check back to find out. ![]()

The Point After

Arizona Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
If you picked this to be the Super Bowl match up at the beginning of the season, you should go to Las Vegas and start betting. Doesn't matter what you bet just go. If you're lucky enough to pick the Cardinals to win the NFC, Vegas odds can't stop you.
Nobody picked the Cardinals to be here, most didn’t even pick them to win their own division. But Arizona will be playing in the Super Bowl (I really just typed that, wow).
Will they win? Who knows. But no matter what happens, Kurt Warner just punched his ticket to Canton.
Check my column in The Cleveland News Leader on Feb.1 to see my pick for Sunday’s championship game.
In other news, Delta State basketball will be traveling to Southern Arkansas on Thursday and host Arkansas Tech on Saturday. The Lady Statesmen will tip-off at 4 p.m. Saturday and the Statesmen at 6 p.m.
After dropping two straight GSC games, this week will be an important one for the Statesmen as they sit at No.5 in the GSC West.
The Lady Statesmen are undefeated in conference play and currently tied with Arkansas Tech at the No.1 spot. Needless to say Saturday’s game will be a big one (as long as both remain undefeated)and will give us the winner of the GSC West and possibly the whole conference.
Here is something I generally stay out of: Politics.
As most of you know, tomorrow is the inauguration of Barack Obama. I plan on watching (considering one of my teachers canceled class for it). I hope you will be part of the historical day, I know I will.

Welcome to the Mitchell Report!!!

Welcome to the first edition of the Mitchell Report.
I hope you enjoy this new blog and all of the fun stuff we will get to discuss (well mainly me). I welcome any and all comments that you would like to leave, good or bad. The only request I make is that we keep it PG in here; due to the fact young kids do have access to this.
The Mitchell Report (named after the infamous steroid report given by Sen. George Mitchell in Major League Baseball) will discuss anything and everything related to sports, no matter what the topic is, controversial or not (hence the Mitchell Report name). I will try and keep things local, except for the occasional major event, like the Super Bowl or World Series.
I will try and update it daily, but there might be a day or two that either I'll forget or I won’t have the time. Summer time that may become very hard because there isn’t a whole lot going on, but I’ll find something.
Also, I will be posting a Video of the Day. Each day I will post a favorite video of mine from YouTube. They will be sports related, of course. They may be funny. They may be serious. Who knows? It all depends on how I feel that day.
The widget to the right is a link to my favorite columnist's work, Rick Reilly.
I may, with the approval of my editor, preview some of the stuff I’m working on for the upcoming newspaper. Possibly even announce what games I will be attending throughout the week. If I’m able to, I will also try and post my favorite picture that I took of the week.
If something major was to break (for example: Ron Roberts gets the head coaching job at Ole Miss) I will post what I know about the situation on here and update it as soon as new information becomes available.
Hopefully this blog will become informative as well as entertaining
I am excited to get this started and I hope you are too.
Tomorrow will be the first real blog that I will post, so be sure to check back.
